NT: Cop killer gunman s girlfriend gives herself up

Northern Territory police say the girlfriend of dead gunman RODNEY WILLIAM ANSELL has given
herself up to Queensland police.

CHERIE HEWSON, 28, is believed to have fled Darwin last Tuesday after ANSELL, 44, shot dead
Sergeant GLEN HUITSON and was then killed by Constable JAMIE O'BRIEN.

Ms HEWSON is believed to have fled from ANSELL after he started shooting at houses about
50km south of Darwin on Monday night.

Police believe the couple drove to Darwin together on Sunday.

They are now piecing together the events leading up to Tuesday's tragedy.

Ms HEWSON was seen in the area of the shootings on Tuesday morning and then disappeared.

A police spokesman says Ms HEWSON'S stationwagon was found in Katherine, south of Darwin,
last night and he speculates she made the journey to Brisbane by bus.

He says Ms HEWSON gave herself up to Brisbane police last night.

She has been arrested but not charged by Queensland police and was in custody overnight.

After NT police interviewed her today, she was released from custody.
